Who We Are

Vision & Mission

Serenity Guinea Pig Rescue, situated in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario, is a compassionate and dedicated small animal rescue organization. Established in November 2017, our mission has been to provide a safe haven for all types of small creatures, with a particular emphasis on guinea pigs.

At Serenity Guinea Pig Rescue, we take pride in our commitment to the well-being and care of these adorable and often misunderstood pets. Our team of experienced volunteers works tirelessly to ensure that each guinea pig receives the attention, love, and proper care they deserve.

The founder of SGPR, Sarah "Feather" Jervis, was motivated to open the organization after witnessing and hearing numerous distressing stories about guinea pigs and bunnies being re-homed online. She came across countless posts depicting defenseless and frightened animals being re-homed without consideration, often cramped in tiny and unsanitary cages. In November, she encountered her first hoarding situation and saved over 30 guinea pigs. Since then, she has transformed her home into a safe haven for guinea pigs and established an loving network of foster homes. It is worth noting that Sarah has a unique connection with these furry creatures as they are her autistic special interest.

Sarah "Feather" Jervis provides exceptional care for a large number of foster guinea pigs in a dedicated room. Each guinea pig is housed in either C&C or midwest cages, and the females are happily kept together in a herd. If you are interested in adopting a guinea pig, you can arrange a visit! It is kindly requested that you bring $20 worth of vegetables to ensure there are enough treats for all the guinea pigs on-site. Currently, there are approximately 50 guinea pigs being cared for.

Over the course of its existence, SGPR has had the privilege of welcoming new team members who have made a significant impact on our mission. Two individuals in particular, Tammy Lucas and Emily Jiang, have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to advocating for those in need. Their contributions have been invaluable to our organization. In addition to Tammy and Emily, we are fortunate to have a team of individuals who share our passion and have joined us in our cause. Among them are Katie Dunham, Stephanie Ann, and Heather Twele. These remarkable individuals have provided unwavering support and played crucial roles in furthering our mission.

While Emily is no longer actively involved with our rescue, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the years of dedicated assistance she provided. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

Overall, the combined efforts of these team members have significantly strengthened SGPR's ability to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need.
Throughout our journey, we have made a significant impact by providing assistance to dozens of guinea pigs in need. However, our work does not stop there; we are committed to increasing this number and making an even greater difference in the lives of these vulnerable creatures.

It is disheartening to witness how small animals often get overlooked as mere pocket or starter pets, when in reality, they are intricate and affectionate beings. At SGPR, we firmly believe that every single animal is valuable and deserving of a happy and secure life.

At SGPR, our unwavering mission is to safeguard the well-being of animals, impart knowledge about their welfare, and actively advocate for their rights on a global scale. Our dedicated team is committed to preventing harm, spreading awareness, and taking action to improve the lives of animals everywhere.

SGPR operates solely on independent funding and does not receive any financial support from the government. We heavily rely on the kindness and generosity of individuals like yourself and your friends to make a significant impact on the lives of rescued animals. Your contributions enable us to assist numerous animals, whether it's nursing them back to health or facilitating their journey to their forever homes.
